Vol. 3, No. 48, December 23, 2021

Welcome to Senior Cannabis Digest. This week you’ll find news of an edible bus ticket infused with hemp oil, a new CBD product from Willie Nelson, last minute gift ideas for mature consumers and more. Enjoy.

New Uses for Cannabis

Berlin’s public transit authority claims it is helping riders deal with holiday stress by issuing edible hemp-infused tickets.

That’s the word from Kyle Jaeger, writing for Marijuana Moment. According to Jaeger, while the tickets are infused with hemp oil from seeds, they don’t actually contain intoxicating cannabinoids such as THC, so the only trip the riders will be taking will be on the subway car or bus—called a “cannabus” in an ad—on which they are riding.

Riders were advised to only nibble on the ticket or eat it after their journey was completed since if it has a bite out of it, it is no longer valid.

In a release on the advertising campaign, the transit authority described the hemp ticket as “the ticket which not only brings you home, but maybe also brings you down a bit.”

If you wish to learn more you can read Kyle Jaeger’s article in the December 16, 2021 issue of Marijuana Moment.

Stats of the Week

This week’s magic number is 71 percent. According to what has been described as the “largest longitudinal real-world evidence (RWE) CBD research project in history, involving nearly 3,000 participants,” 71 percent of participants in the study said that after taking CBD they experienced an improvement in their well-being.

Javier Hasse, writing for Benzinga, reported that the study also found:

 • 63 percent of participants experienced a clinically meaningful improvement in anxiety,

• 61 percent experienced a clinically meaningful improvement in sleep quality,

• 47 percent experienced a clinically meaningful improvement in pain and

• 61 percent reported an effect within one to four hours of taking a CBD product.

The study, called the Radicle ACES (Advancing CBD Education and Science) study, was conducted by a company called Radicle Science. The purpose of the study was to “determine the effectiveness of botanical products containing CBD by examining whether 13 participating CBD brands delivered therapeutic benefits across five health outcomes, including well-being, quality of life, longer-term pain, feelings of anxiety and sleep quality.”

Consumer Corner

When it comes to cannabis products, things often seem to come full circle after a while. For example, in the late 1940s and early 1950s, when individuals spoke of marijuana it was usually in hushed tones and often in code words, such as “tea.”

Now, thanks to a true mature consumer of cannabis—Willie Nelson—tea is back on the cannabis scene, only this time it is in the form of an actual consumer product.

That’s the word from Lukas Barfield, reporting for Ganjapreneur. According to Barfield, Nelson’s cannabis company, Willie’s Remedy, has introduced a CBD-infused tea called Wildflowers.

Named for the album by the late Tom Petty, Barfield described the tea as a blend of whole chamomile flowers, lemon myrtle flowers, and peppermint leaves that is infused with hemp-derived CBD. Nelson’s company sources the ingredients from small to medium farms across the U.S. and all proceeds go to benefit MusiCares, a charity that provides people who work in the music industry a support system and human services. MusiCares named Tom Petty their person of the year in 2017.

Said Annie Nelson, the co-founder of Willie’s Remedy and Nelson’s wife, “Hemp offers a comforting way to expand on a natural wellness routine. Wildflowers Tea is an example of the connections that are possible when we share the culture of cannabis and music.”

The limited-edition product comes in biodegradable pyramid box packaging or loose leaf and can be found online at the Tom Petty Store and Willie’s Remedy website.

To learn more we encourage you to read Lukas Barfield’s article in the December 21, 2021 issue of Ganjapreneur.

Tea Part Two

Mature consumers who want to enjoy a cannabis tea that contains more THC than CBD may want to make their own. To help Lauren Yoshiko, writing for Thrillist, offers a  recipe for making cannabis tea at home. Said Yoshiko, “All you need is a gram of ground flower and about 20 minutes to spare.”

Her recipe is as follows:

Ingredients

• 1 gram of ground cannabis. She recommends a citrus-scented strain if available.  • 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter or coconut oil

• Your tea bag of  choice

• 4 cups of water

• Any other ingredients for flavoring such as honey, milk, sugar or cinnamon

• a cheesecloth or a fine strainer

Instructions

Step 1: Boil 4 cups of water in a medium-sized pot. Once it’s boiling, add the tablespoon of butter or coconut oil and allow it to completely dissolve. She makes the point that THC needs something fatty to stick to under high heat.

Step 2: Add your gram of ground cannabis into the boiling pot, and turn the temperature down to a simmer.

Step 3: Allow this mixture to simmer for 15 minutes.

Step 4: Strain out the bits of cannabis using a fine strainer or cheesecloth.

Step 5: Pour into a cup or mug and add your teabag.

The recipe makes about three regular mug-sized cups of tea. According to Yoshiko the recommended dosing is one cup per person, and not within two hours of driving  or “operating serious machinery.” She also suggests that you can substitute cannabis tincture or cannabis butter for cannabis flower.

For a more detailed description of the recipe we urge you to read Lauren Yoshiko’s article in the December 9, 2021 issue of Thrillist.
